Citizenship & Naturalization

The Path to Citizenship

Naturalization is the process by which a foreign national becomes a full citizen of our country. This grants you the right to vote, freedom of movement within the EU, and access to consular protection. It is a significant commitment to our shared society and values. Generally, you must have lived here legally for at least five to eight years, have a secure income without relying on state welfare, and possess a clean criminal record. Exceptions apply for spouses of citizens and individuals granted asylum.

Citizenship Test & Language

To ensure successful integration, applicants must prove B1-level German language skills and pass the official Citizenship Test. This test covers the legal and social order, as well as the living conditions in our country. Our office organizes these tests on a monthly basis. We also provide a list of certified language schools and integration courses to help you prepare effectively for your application.

Consultation & Submission

Citizenship applications are complex and require a personal consultation before submission. During this meeting, we will review your case and give you a tailored list of necessary documents. Please bring your valid residence permit, passport, and proof of income to the initial consultation. Note that processing times can vary significantly depending on the volume of applications.
